Kara Kinney, MA, LMHC

Kara earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Ball State University in 2013 and completed her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015. She is passionate about supporting children and their families through life’s challenges and transitions.

Kara has extensive experience working with children facing a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, anger, irritability, behavioral challenges at home and school, friendship difficulties, and oppositional behaviors. She works closely with children and their caregivers to identify strengths and develop practical solutions tailored to each family's unique needs.

Creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment is central to Kara’s approach. She incorporates play therapy techniques to help children express themselves in developmentally appropriate ways and to build trust and connection. Kara also uses other creative, hands-on interventions to keep therapy engaging and effective for clients.

Her therapeutic work is grounded in a trauma-informed, collaborative, strengths-based, and solution-focused framework. She integrates evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to meet each child’s individual treatment needs.

Above all, Kara values building an empathetic and supportive relationship with each child and caregiver she works with.

Outside the therapy room, Kara enjoys reading, savoring a good cup of coffee, and spending time outdoors with her sweet little dog, Piper.
